Why is my check engine light on?
A check engine light can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a failing catalytic converter or a misfire. The stored code points to a system, not a specific broken part — that's why a proper diagnosis matters. We read the code, then test to confirm the actual cause before recommending any repair.
Can't I just read the code myself with a cheap scanner?
You can read the code, but the code is a starting point, not an answer. A P0171 doesn't mean "replace this part" — it means the engine is running lean, which can have a dozen causes. We use the code plus live data and testing to find the real problem so you don't waste money replacing parts that were fine.
Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?
If the light is steady, it's usually safe to drive a short distance to get it checked. If it's flashing, that signals an active misfire that can damage your catalytic converter — stop driving and get it looked at right away. When in doubt, call us and describe what it's doing.
